The town of Smiths Falls announced this week that due to persistent vandalism of the waterfront at Murphy Park, including slashing of the inflatable, they have been forced to remove it indefinitely as it is no longer reparable or safe.
It follows a similar issue in Carleton Place where the washrooms at the popular Carleton Junction park were locked last week due to vandalism damage.
In a media release, the town says “Parks are incredibly important for a healthy and vibrant community as they enhance quality of life and provide a safe and inclusive environment for physical activity and recreation.”
“The Town of Smiths Falls continues maintain and upgrade facilities at the park and would like to remind citizens that vandalism is a setback to the whole community as it costs taxpayer money and the enjoyment of our parks.”
