The proposed site for the hub.
The town of Smiths Falls will donate about 2 acres of the Hyland/Corbett Park to Rideau Community Health Services for the future health and social services hub.
The proposed site is on the Hyland portion of the park, west of Sussex Street.
The site will act as the main headquarters for several organizations who aim to help the vulnerable sector.
Councilor Chris McGuire doesn’t even consider this an outright donation.
A conceptual site plan sees the new play structure sitting across from the hub, with the community garden to the east.
The stretch of land was assessed at just under $159,800. The site is subject to development charges and property tax.
Mayor Shawn Pankow says this is a very effective use of property that has seen a decline in usage.
There was also talk Monday of exploring the idea of adding an indoor recreational facility.
