The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Board of Directors says there will be no “closure of departments or services at this time.”
They made the decision in consultation with hospital management just this morning.
The news comes after sources told Lake 88 that a plan had been proposed to close the Emergency Department in Perth for several weeks as a way to deal with a staffing shortage.
That plan met with wide-spread criticism, and the resignation of Perth Mayor John Fenik from Hospital’s Board.
The hospital says there is a critical shortage of staff that has been a factor since the beginning of the pandemic.
The hospital notes that physicians and hospital management have been working together to find creative solutions to maintain all services to guarantee patient and staff/physicians safety at all times.
A statement via release says, “As always, the PSFDH Board, hospital management and physicians are committed to making the right choices to ensure continued safe care for our patients and work environment for our staff and physicians. The PSFDH thanks the community for its continued support as we navigate together through this unprecedented time.”
