At Tuesday night’s Perth Council meeting, a new representative was chosen to replace Mayor John Fenik on the local hospital board after his resignation.
Mayor Fenik reported on developments over the last 48 hours that saw the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital declare and then rescind a statement that the emergency unit of the Perth campus would be closed at night on a temporary basis due to staff shortages.
Fenik explained his opposition to this measure. He felt that if the temporary closure went into effect, it would only be a matter of time until the entire hospital was closed.
A vote was taken to appoint Deputy Mayor Ed McPherson to the board as council’s representative.
