The President and CEO of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital, Michael Cohen, says they hope to re-open the Perth site’s Emergency Department on Thursday.
But staffing issues could change that plan. He tells Lake 88 that the situation is not unique to his hospital and they’re trying to hire.
The President and CEO says the lack of staff thanks to the provincial shortage of nursing and other staff, coupled with a COVID-19 outbreak forced their hand.
Cohen says the plan is to re-open on Thursday. One report says that it could be open only during daylight hours. Either way, Cohen says the situation hinges on few factors.
Cohen says the staff has has been pushed harder than ever thanks to the Pandemic. Even with supplementary nurses on contract from agencies, they’ll be walking a tightrope for a while.
