Our health unit is reporting the first case of Monkeypox in their jurisdiction.
They say Monkeypox can spread from person to person, and common household disinfectants can kill the virus.
In Ontario, the most commonly reported risk factors for developing monkeypox infection include engaging in sexual or intimate contact with a new and or more than one partner.
Symptoms of Monkeypox usually range from five to 21 days after exposure, and can include fever, headache, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes and lesions.
If you have any symptoms please contact your healthcare provider right away.
Avoid close contact with others and disinfect surfaces until a diagnosis is presented. If you test positive follow all instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
While contagious, the virus is not as dangerous as some variants of COVID-19, though it can produce serious reactions in some.
