If you were planning to catch a VIA train in Smiths Falls today, keep those plans.
Unifor and Via Rail have come to terms on a tentative agreement. That means their workers won’t be walking off the job which keeps the trains rolling.
Details of the new contract are not being released pending ratification.
A statement from VIA says it will be retroactive to January 1st, 2022 and in effect through December 31st, 2024.
As talks continued to progress, the union offered to push back several deadlines that would have initiated the strike which would have derailed the company’s operations, coast to coast.
