North Grenville OPP are investigating another romance scam in the area. This one cost the victim $40,000.
OPP say the fraud involved gift cards that looked very real.
They are hoping others learn from this case, and are once again warning people to be careful with who they communicate with online.
If you fall for a scam, call police right away and report it.
If you don’t fall for it, you can call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
By the way, the Anti-Fraud centre says there are even scam emails circulating claiming to be from them. They don’t send emails to individuals saying they’ve been scammed, so if you get one just delete it.
So far this year Canadians have been scammed out of $242 million dollars, and its only July.
