We now know what the stepped up police presence in Carleton Place on Tuesday was all about.

Lanark County OPP, the Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, and Aviation Services, searched for, found and arrested a local man in connection with attempted vehicle thefts.

Officers responded to reports of a lone male attempting to steal vehicles from a parking lot in Carleton Place. A call from the public led to police finding 23-year-old, Darren Westlake of Carleton Place in Beckwith.

He is charged with two counts of Theft Over $5000 and one count of Failing to Comply with Conditions of Release.

The charges have not been proven in court.
