The long-weekend means lots of activity on the water in our listening area.
But Smiths Falls Police Service Constable Aaron Tompkins says that means we need to be extra careful.
It also means we need to be safe by keeping our eyes on our kids when they’re swimming and wearing life jackets when on boats or other watercraft.
The officer says Ontario has the highest number of drowning deaths so far this year, and also leads in the grim category on an annual basis. He says we need to work together to keep those numbers down.
