Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow is seeking a third term.
We’ve received the unofficial list of nominees from town officials and so far, Pankow is the only candidate listed.
Meanwhile another potential candidate has declared he is running on social media. Justin Duhamel says he will seek the chair this October.
Duhamel formed the group “Concerned Citizen’s Coalition of Smiths Falls by Justin Duhamel,” which strongly opposed the redesign of Beckwith St, claiming the majority of the town’s residents were against it. He is looking to engage the public in future council decisions.
His name does not yet appear on the unofficial list of candidates provided by the town.

Pankow was part of the council that reversed a decision to change the plans for the downtown revitalization after the last election. He was first elected in December of 2014 when he won by just under 600 votes. In 2018 he won re-election by more than 1,000 votes.
That means it could be a polarizing election.
Election Day is October 24th. Candidates have until 2PM on August 19th to file papers with the town.
