Some local communities will see expanded and improved high-speed internet access, covering more than 260,000 underserved homes.
That includes many in our listening area.
The province calls it another milestone in its plan to help connect every corner of the province by the end of 2025.
The province has signed agreements with eight internet service providers, including two local offerings, Bell and Xplornet, to bring access to more municipalities in the province.
Among the communities served by Bell affected are: Beckwith, Carleton Place, Central Frontenac, Drummond/North Elmsley, Lanark Highlands, and Mississippi Mills.
And with Xplornet: Athens, Beckwith, Brockville, Central Frontenac, Drummond/North Elmsley, Lanark Highlands, Montague, North Grenville, Perth, Rideau Lakes, Smiths Falls, Tay Valley, and Westport.
The move is part of Ontario’s investment of nearly $4 billion to bring access to reliable high-speed internet across the province.
