The Town of Smiths Falls council and evaluation committee sided with the community and have entered an agreement with Dominic Laporte for the design, installation and maintenance of the Russell Street “Artscape” Parkette mural project.
Manager of Economic Development and Tourism Julia Crowder said the town’s evaluation committee agreed with the public that Laporte is the correct choice.
The sheer amount of interest took councillor Wendy Alford by surprise.
This comes after an overwhelming amount of participation in the voting process, where over 1300 surveys were submitted by residents ranking their favourite designs from five options. Laporte’s received 33% of the first place votes, 14% more than the second place finisher.
