The results are in and they’re overwhelmingly positive following the 12-week pilot project involving 100 Smiths Falls residents and the FoodCycler device, which focuses on managing organic waste to minimize greenhouse gas emissions later seen at landfills.
Lake 88 previously reported on the agreement struck between the company and Smiths Falls council to launch the pilot late last year.
VP of Business Development of the Ottawa-based company Alex Hayman says the active thought of minimizing food waste changed the attitude of the participants.
Councillor Wendy Alford said it’s a no-brainer to continue the budding relationship between the town and the company.
The company estimates the use of 100 FoodCyclers eliminates 41.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.
Council agreed the project went incredibly well and will look for a continued and enhanced partnership opportunity with FoodCycler.
