The idea of stop arm cameras on school buses continues to be kicked around by Lanark County Council as the county looks at ways to enhance safety.
County clerk Jasmin Ralph says they’ve had preliminary discussions with Student Transportation Eastern Ontario, which operate all school buses in the county, and they’ve raised a couple of jurisdictional issues.
County warden John Fenik says the program will not fall into the OPP or school boards hands.
The province says it’s up to each municipality, but Lanark County is seeking a wider collaboration to simplify the process.
Fenik will advocate for an expansive collaboration with fellow municipalities at the Eastern Ontario Warden’s caucus.
