Its not much of a surprise when there are bear sightings in Lanark County.
The OPP is reminding us exactly when you should call 9-1-1 when one is around, because they aren’t always a danger.
CALL 9-1-1 if a black bear poses an immediate threat to personal safety by exhibiting threatening or aggressive behavior.
These are usually pretty obvious things, like a bear entering a school yard when school’s in, when one is stalking people, trying to get into a home, killing pets or livestock, or wandering into a public gathering. Those are all good reasons to call 9-1-1.
Once that call is made, the OPP will get the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry involved to help relocate the bear if possible.
Whenever you see a bear be sure to keep your distance. If its in the immediate area, just stay inside.
