A long-vacant property the town of Smiths Falls has failed to sell twice in the past has been designated for additional affordable housing properties through Carebridge Community Support.
The town entered a memorandum of understanding with their long-standing partners Monday night to develop the property at 14-30 Robinson Avenue into “about 30 affordable units,” according to mayor Shawn Pankow.
The location was home to a rowhouse structure that fell during a 2016 fire.
Smiths Falls CAO Malcom Morris says there is a long leash for this project.
44 Chambers Street is the future home to 28 rent-geared-to-income units, slated to be completed next July.
Councillor Jay Brennan said the town has done their part through working with the county and local partners at securing additional housing and hopes the province recognizes that.
