Parents with children in schools, take note: Premier Doug Ford is warning education workers who voted 96.5 per cent in favour of a strike mandate that he won’t budge on keeping classrooms free of disruptions.
Ford urged the members of CUPE not to force his hand when he was asked today about the results of the strike vote by workers including early childhood educators, custodians and administration staff.
The premier added he is a strong believer in negotiating.
CUPE has said two days of contract talks with the government that started yesterday will be key in determining the union’s next steps.
The strike vote doesn’t necessarily mean a walkout will happen. It’s more of a weapon to be used in negotiations at this point, but of course could escalate if neither side moves.
