Dr. Paula Stewart was recognized at Lanark County council Wednesday night for her esteemed career as medical officer of health for the Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit.
For 12 years, Dr. Stewart’s daily focus was to better the lives of area residents before retiring this past summer.
She was presented a plaque by council expressing gratitude on behalf of them and citizens for her work.
Although born in Ottawa, Stewart says she’s always had a close connection to Lanark County.
Councillor Richard Kidd remembers the early days of Stewart’s local tenure and says that’s when the relationship between local government and the health unit truly began.
Stewart said she knew when she was in med school she always wanted to work in Perth because of the kindness she felt in the community.
The plaque was crafted by Stephen Braithwaite of Mississippi Mills.
