The province is giving the Smiths Falls Police Service close to $66,000 to fight crime, including auto theft.
The service will use it to improve their Automated Licence Plate Recognition technology, which alerts officers to stolen or expired plates, or plates registered to suspended drivers.
The system can also notify officers of missing and wanted persons, and vehicles associated with AMBER alerts.
The force already has one of the units in use. The money will allow them to buy three more.
In announcing the money, LFK MPP John Jordan says the money will allow the Smiths Falls Police Service to have an even more direct impact on the community’s safety.
