The OPP is warning of a hydro scam making the rounds, and the criminals are targeting seniors.
The scammer calls the target saying they can cut hydro costs, then requests a meeting. Once there, they convince the victims to pay a start up fee, and try to get personal information, like Social Insurance Numbers.
The scam is designed to lure you into providing your personal information and giving up cash.
If this happens to you, call Police right away. Basically, you have to question every offer you receive and verify it independently with your service provider.
