Perth council’s committee of the whole is taking a preliminary look at next year’s potential tax rate increase.
Director Brian Burns outlined the impacts of several different increases but focused on a 6% figure which would bump taxes on a $300,000 home by $154.
When asked if new revenue from growth could reduce that figure, he warned against that type of borrowing.
He said the problems rapidly growing communities face when using new revenue to replace aging infrastructure is that they’re basically kicking the financial-burden can down the road for someone else to look after.
Talks continue, weeks ahead of the town’s budget.
