A pair of eco-friendly tiny homes will be constructed in Perth.
Lanark County will own the two homes constructed by Cabinscape, a company who specializes in this type of work.
The carbon negative homes will be built on a county-owned lot on Robinson Street in Perth, with room for a third if the pilot project goes well.
Director of Social Services Emily Hollington says the permanent resident homes will also fit another need.
The cost of the homes and pilot project which includes monitoring the environmental impact afterwards is around $594,000, but Hollington estimates future purchases for one unit would be around $150,000.
Over $470,000 of the price tag for the pilot project is covered by grant funding and donations, with the county’s housing corporation chipping in the $120,000 difference.
