A new subvariant of the Omicron strain of COVID-19 is making the rounds. It’s confirmed in many parts of the world including the US and has recently entered Canada.
It’s called XBB.1.5.
Medical Officer of Health for the Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit, Dr. Linna Li says the continued emergence of variants of COVID-19 is expected, just like it is with any virus.

The Doctor says when a new variant appears researchers do a deep dive, looking for three main factors.
So far, there is no evidence that the severity has changed with XBB.1.5.
