The passing of a long-standing community volunteer is being felt around Almonte.
On January 6th, the Almonte General Hospital (AGH) announced the passing of Elizabeth Preston, better known as Betty, earlier in the week on January 4th.
In a statement, President and CEO Mary Wilson Trider said Preston “was an enthusiastic supporter of AGH as a Board member on both the hospital and foundation boards, and as a volunteer in the Pharmacy Department,” and she had “tremendous energy, a great sense of humour, and never met a problem that she didn’t believe could be solved.”
The foundation’s managing director Al Roberts said Preston was always willing to help with any events and made thank you calls to donors and supporters.
In 2021, Preston received the Bert McIntyre Memorial Award for Volunteerism in recognition for her years of service and dedication.
Preston was elected to the hospital board in 2008 and served for nine years, and was elected to the AGH Foundation Board in 2017.
The flag at the hospital was lowered to half-mast in honour of Preston.
