The Township of Rideau Lakes is now 25 years old.
The Township was created by merging the neighbouring historic municipalities of North Crosby, South Crosby, Bastard and South Burgess, South Elmsley, as well as the village of Newboro in 1998 – a few days later the Ice Storm hit.
Rideau Lakes Mayor Arie Hoogenboom notes that time of crisis actually helped forge a strong community.
Hoogenboom says with such a large geographical region, ward representatives have had to take a look at what makes the best sense for the entire region when coming to decisions.
A celebration takes place Saturday afternoon (Jan. 14th) to mark the occasion at the Newboro Community Hall from 2PM until 4PM. All are welcome, but they ask that you let them know by email at mwhite@rideaulakes.ca or by phone at 1-800-928-2250.
