The Smiths Falls Police Service made their presentation among all of the other department heads to Smiths Falls council Tuesday afternoon in a wide-spanning budget meeting.
Managers of eight departments highlighted their operating budgets and capital projects to be considered for 2023.
Smiths Falls Police Chief Mark MacGillivray explained the reasons behind their operating budget for this year.
Councillor Jay Brennan applauded the work the service does.
MacGillivray also highlighted the various grant applications they have in place and have been recently successful in securing to have other funding avenues to enhance local policing. Their capital project requests for 2023 includes $65,000 for a new cruiser, and $25,000 for a provincially mandated 9-1-1 system upgrade.
They also requested $50,000 to relocate the emergency radio and other equipment from the existing water tower.
But that has been deferred to the 2024 budget, as Public Works Director Paul McMunn said it was a “pretty safe bet,” the tower will not be removed this year.
