The Detached Trail Bridge in Smiths Falls will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic immediately. It was used by snowmobiles, ATV’s and pedestrians. Cars and trucks did not use it.
Parks Canada says it is due to the poor condition of the concrete abutments and a significant gap between the decking and steel girders. Parks Canada has assumed ownership of the bridge and will be installing barricades and fencing to close access.
Trail users can use the approved trail link on Abbott Street North as an alternative.
The public is asked to refrain from using the bridge until further notice.
