The work on the Blakeney Bridge in Mississippi Mills is being pushed back a year.
At the public works meeting Wednesday night, manager Sean Derouin outlined the reasons why.
Councillor Richard Kidd expressed his frustration, wondering why the heritage assessment wasn’t completed before public works approached council to green light the project in the first place in December.
The bridge being now classified as Schedule C requires staff to complete a variety of additional studies, which is now pushing the bridge to a 2024 completion date.
An RFP for an alternatives report design will also be put out to see what the cost would be to include pedestrian travel, and council will still be spending up to $2 million this year for the purchase of the bridge and up to $2.5 million in 2024 for its construction.
