MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston, John Jordan has released a statement on the cuts and significant downsizing announced at Smiths Falls-based Canopy Growth.
Mr. Jordan wrote:
Today’s announcement from Canopy Growth will have a huge impact on workers and their families throughout Lanark Frontenac Kingston, especially Smiths Falls and surrounding municipalities. Our Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development has already reached out to Canopy Growth to deploy our Rapid Re-Employment and Training Service to ensure that employees are aware of available resources and programming to find their next job. Along with our Federal Member, I will be working with the town of Smiths Falls to advise and support on all the available options for continued economic growth and employment prospects. There are many opportunities available right now in all sectors throughout Lanark Frontenac Kingston and Leeds and Grenville especially in skilled Trades and Health Care.
The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development will be engaging employers, employees, union representatives and community stakeholders to help transition workers in Lanark Frontenac Kingston to their next employment opportunity.
