The Table Community Food Centre made its case for municipal grant funding from Smiths Falls council Monday night.
For 2023 they requested $31,000, $1,000 more than what they received in 2022, though they asked for $110,000 a year ago.
Executive Director Ramsey Hart says they’re unfortunately back at square one when it comes to finding a home for the future Smiths Falls site after their previous agreement fell through.
Hart says a food centre offers much more than clients being a passive recipient of a service. It offers community and companionship, and additional resources.
Hart says the model they’ve built in Perth is something they hope to replicate in Smiths Falls.
Hart says they’re ponying up $75,000 from reserves in that effort and are applying for additional grant funding, as a permanent space is an integral part of their operations.
