The town of Smiths Falls is ponying up over $1.3 million for a pair of upgrades to its water treatment plant.
The screens at the plant which help remove large objects early in the filtering process are being replaced for just under $900,000.
Manager of Water and Wastewater Jason Barlow says this is something that can’t wait.
Barlow says he doesn’t see any reason why they won’t get another 30 years of service from the new screens with regular upkeep.
CAO Malcom Morris says these projects are directly impacted by inflation.
Smiths Falls CAO Malcolm Morris says the replacement of the 30-year-old screens especially is a sign of the inflationary times.
Additionally, around $407,000 will be used to install granular carbon filters.
Morris says they’ll be working to try and find efficiencies throughout the process so while the savings may not be significant, anything will help.
