Tay Valley Township is looking to bring cohousing to its taxpayers.
Cohousing has a few different definitions, but it boils down to multiple families or individuals sharing one lot together, with the aim of creating a tight community.
It could look like a couple of different things, from a joint-tenant style or a condominium-type housing option.
It’s for any age group but Tay Valley’s targeting the senior demographic for cohousing, as that’s the bulk of the population in the Township, planner Noelle Reeve explains.
Challenges do exist however when it comes to having multiple persons on a single plot Reeve says, particularly with communal servicing.
Currently in Tay Valley you’re only allowed one property per plot of land. Reeve will be drafting a zoning by-law amendment by the spring to bring forth, with public meetings that follow.
