The Township of Rideau Lakes is holding a by-election following the passing of councillor Cathy Livingston for the ward of Bastard and South Burgess.
It’s taking place this spring, with a week-long voting period from May 9th until May 15th for phone and internet voting.
Mayor Arie Hoogenboom says there is some additional costs in order to meet election standards.
Hoogenboom says council felt holding a by-election was the fairest option they had, which included the possibility of electing the runner up for the seat in the last municipal election.
There are currently three candidates who have put their name forward for the Ward 1 seat, and the last day to register to run is March 31st.
