The Ontario government says it’s reviewing the pricing practices of nursing agencies after they were accused of exploiting long-term care homes that need temporary staff.
Lanark Lodge Director Carey Duncan called on the province to do exactly this during an interview with Lake 88 last month.
Long-term Care Minister Paul Calandra says the government has formed a committee to examine the challenges long-term care homes are facing amid a severe health-care staffing shortage.
CEO of Advant-Age Ontario Lisa Levin says the not-for-profit organization is pleased the government has responded so quickly to its request for action and that exorbitant fees are undermining care.
Calandra says he wants input from Advant-Age Ontario and the Ontario Long-Term Care Association, which represents 70 per cent of the 630 nursing homes in the province.
