The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority says there is a potential for above-average flooding across the Rideau Valley watershed in the spring due to heavy snowfall this winter.
They say water levels on some lakes in the upper watershed are already above normal and could rise further as the snowpack begins to melt.
But it says precipitation and the speed of the melt will influence actual flood conditions, and so far, the short-term forecast is favourable for limited flooding.
More than 308 centimetres of snow has fallen in Ottawa this winter and the last time two times the city got at least 300 centimetres — in 2017 and 2019 — there was record-setting flooding along the Ottawa River.
