The Smiths Falls Fire Department is working on switching over to the Next Generation 9-1-1 system.
Both the fire and police department secured $560,000 each from the province to aid in the transfer.

The fire chief sought and received permission for the sole source purchase of necessary equipment to move forward, worth about $145,000.
The grant money must be spent by the end of the month, creating a busy month for the fire chief.
The department is also drawing close to a service agreement deal with the Owen Sound Police Service for Next Gen 911 infrastructure.
