The Perth Blue Wings are the EOJHL Richardson Division champions, completing a four game sweep of the Arnprior Packers Saturday night (March 25) and advancing to their second consecutive Barkley Cup.
The Blue Wings finished the regular season first place in the EOJHL with a record of 37-4-1, while the Packers finished one point behind in second, with a record of 37-5.
Lleyton McLean scored twice and Brady McEwan made 45 saves in Saturday’s 2-1 win, which punched their ticket to the final, where they’ll face the Richmond Royals or Casselman Vikings for the championship. Perth fell to Casselman in six games last season.
The Martin Division Final is tied at two games a piece following the Vikings 3-0 win Saturday.
McEwan’s performance throughout the series played a key role in the Blue Wings sweep, in a series most expected to go six or seven games.
McEwan turned aside 30 shots in Game 1’s 3-1 victory, before making 67 saves in a marathon triple overtime 4-3 victory on the road Wednesday night, and 43 saves in Perth’s 4-3 overtime win Friday.
