The Health Unit has issued a warning about the presence of Xylazine in the already hazardous unregulated drug supply circulating in the community.
They say it is crucial to inform any drug users you know about this potentially lethal addition.
Xylazine, also known as “Tranq,” is a sedative used on animals and is not approved for use in people.
An increasing amount of Fentanyl seizures made by law enforcement across the nation include Xylazine, and the Health Unit has confirmed that it has also been detected in Eastern Ontario.
The Health Unit states that unlike Fentanyl, Xylazine does not react to naloxone. If you encounter an overdose, please dial 9-1-1 immediately.
