This year’s class of the Perth and District Sports Hall of Fame has been announced.
The Hall’s Tracy Zander says they’re getting back to business, with a new host: The Perth Legion.
The Ceremony honouring this year’s inductees will be held on Sunday, May 28th at 1 o’clock.
Here are this year’s inductees:
Dawn Martin – Athlete – Cross Country
✓ 2008 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) gold medalist
✓ 2008 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) bronze medalist
✓ 2011 OCAA bronze medalist as part of St. Lawrence College Team
✓ Two-time CCAA gold medalist as part of Ontario Conference Team
✓Two-time OCAA All Academic
✓2011 CCAA All Canadian
✓2011/12 St. Lawrence College (Brockville) Female Athlete of the Year
Les Douglas – Athlete – Hockey
✓ Won the Stanley Cup in 1943 with the Detroit Red Wings
✓ Played in four seasons with the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL
✓ Won Calder Cup (American Hockey League – AHL – Championship) two times
✓ AHL’s leading scorer – 1945/46 and 1949/50
✓ Won the Les Cunningham Award as AHL MVP – 1949/50
✓ Won Byng of Vimy Trophy as Quebec Senior Hockey League MVP
Edmund Butler (E.B. or Ed) Code – Builder – Multi-Sport
✓ Won the first Glen Tay Block Race in 1907
✓ Began officiating sports in 1910 – lacrosse, basketball, track & field, and football
✓Long-time Perth Collegiate Institute coach 1915 to the 1930s
✓ Coached track and field, basketball hockey and football at PCI
✓Coached PCI athletes to many Lanark County interscholastic championships
✓1924/25 Chairman of Athletics for Old Home Week
✓1924 Financial Committee of the Perth Baseball Club
✓1928 helped to organise the first EOSSA track and field meet
✓1932/33 President Links O’Tay Golf Club
✓1930s officer of the Junior Hockey Club

✓ Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) Provincial Gold Medalist, 1999/2000
