Your health is impacted by many environmental conditions, and local health officials say Earth Day, which is this Saturday, is a good time to remember that.
Health Unit Health Promoter Joe Reid says severe weather events are an obvious place to start.
He points to the recent Ice Storm and the wind storms of last summer that left people without power for days. That meant a lack of air conditioning and food spoiling.
Reid says one of the biggest problems we have in our region is food and organic waste making it to the local landfills.
He says one of the best ways we can help is to limit food waste and compost whenever possible to keep it out of the landfills.
He says that if people want to help, they can look for local Climate organizations and join them.
