As expected with all the rain, sump pumps have been working overtime and people in high flood risk areas have been preparing for the influx of water.
Our conservation authorities are watching the situation closely. Both the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority and the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority have flood watches in effect. They were issued last week, then extended as the current dump of rain was forecast.
The good news is that they don’t expect water levels to hit the same heights that they did back in 2019, when a flood devastated communities in our listening area and throughout eastern Ontario.
As always, with any surge of water comes risk.
Please keep a close eye on children and pets.
Don’t let them get too close to bodies of water.
