The first annual visitor survey was presented to Smiths Falls council last week.
Manager of Economic Development and Tourism Julia Crowder said 2022 was the first year of a three year pilot project to gauge how tourists and visitors perceive the town.
While participation was low, Crowder expects it to grow year-over-year as the word gets out.
237 valid surveys were completed, 19% of visits were mainly for shopping and 17% for visiting family or friends. Nearly half the surveyors dined in town while 10% took part in outdoor activities.
Crowder agrees there’s need to be more focus on adding additional hotel options, but also other alternatives.
