In the ongoing legal proceedings of Randy Hillier, a decision regarding his request for a trial venue change outside Ottawa has been postponed for an additional two weeks.
Superior Court Justice Kevin Phillips previously rejected Hillier’s applications for a change in court venue.
However, a recent ruling by the Supreme Court, which introduces a new standard for summary dismissals, has prompted Phillips to reconsider his previous decision. The Supreme Court ruling emphasizes that an application in a criminal proceeding should only be dismissed summarily if it is deemed “manifestly frivolous.”
Randy Hillier is facing multiple charges related to his involvement in the Convoy protests in the capital. The outcome of the trial venue decision will significantly impact the course of the legal proceedings.
