Planet Youth Lanark County and the Health Unit are holding a goal setting session in Carleton Place on June 1st, and they’re inviting the public to weigh in on their community strategy to prevent youth substance use and abuse.
Chair of Planet Youth, David Somppi tells Lake 88 there’s a long list of substances that they’re targeting, but they have a broader scope.
The session will help guide the group’s approach, which sees the community come together to offer alternatives to substance use, such as sports and social engagements.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Linna Li says it is vital to get involved early to promote healthy brain development.
Li says that’s why its important to make sure youth don’t use substances like cannabis, alcohol or nicotine. Doing so could actually affect the rest of their lives.
You can register online to take part at the event which takes place at Zion United Church.
