The Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust recently held its 20th Anniversary Celebrations.
The event took place at Marble Woodlands in Ramsay – 200 acres of meadow, forests and wetland generously donated to the MMLT earlier this year by Noel and Janet Noyes-Brown.
Not yet open to the public, Marble Woodlands will be accessible by the public, similar to High Lonesome Nature Reserve in Pakenham.
Marble Woodlands is named for the marble beneath its surface, and the land was first settled by an Irish family in 1823 – 200 years ago.
The property has a 3.5km trail through deciduous forest, coniferous forest and wetland and has a huge diversity of forest types.
Marble Woodands is registered as a local contribution to Canada’s commitment to protecting 30% of its land and water by 2030.
