In a powerful display of unity, Smiths Falls residents took to the streets to demonstrate their unwavering support for the LGBTQ2SIA+ community after a newly unveiled rainbow crosswalk was defaced by a vandal.
Kelly Denham took to a local Facebook group and called for others to join her in drawing rainbows and encouraging messages on the streets with washable chalk.
She says their message was clear.
It was on a short notice, so Denham was surprised at the amount of people who came out.
Mayor Shawn Pankow denounced the vandal in a social media post the following day.
A member of Smiths Falls Police also took part in the chalk art, with the department looking for the spray paint suspect.
