An inaugural Long Service Medal awards ceremony saw 20 local first responders recognized during Paramedic Services Week.
The medal was created to recognize long service and good conduct, and are awarded to paramedics after 12 years of service, with a decorative bar added at 22 and 30 years.
The medal program was initially intended to begin in 2020 but COVID-19 impacted the ability to have a recognition ceremony. The idea came from Chief Travis Mellema.
