Martin Whyte addresses Drummond/North Elmsley council in 2022. Grant Deme photo
An open house and range day is slated for Sunday at 1688 Rideau Ferry Road.
It’s the site of a would-be commercial use gun range, but the proposal has seen significant backlash across the community and a motion was made by Drummond/North Elmsley council to deny a zoning amendment application to continue the process in April.
That decision has since been appealed by applicant Martin Whyte and it’s currently being reviewed by the Ontario Land Tribunal.
In a statement to local media, Whyte says the open house is a family friendly event open to advocates and opponents of a range. It’ll include a free barbecue, with professional shooters and range safety officers on hand for demonstrations and to answer questions.
You’re asked to bring ear protection and leave your firearms at home.
The open house runs from 12 until 3 p.m.
