Glenview Sports Entertainment and the Town of Smiths Falls have struck an advertisement deal in a bid to fill up the boards and other locales at the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre.
Glenview Sports Entertainment, under the Filoso family, own the Smiths Falls Bears.
Mayor Shawn Pankow says this is an agreement which benefits everyone.
It’s a five-year deal beginning August 1st with an annual renewal option until 2030.
This will generate $150,000 of town revenue over the first five years, and $262,500 should the deal be renewed until 2030.
Councilor Peter McKenna is fully supportive of the contract, but was wondering if safeguards are in place to ensure sports gambling adverts, which have become commonplace across the sports entertainment world, stay away.
Director of Community Services Stephanie Clark assured him there are.
The town also reserves the right to approve all advertising prior to installation, maintain the naming rights to the facility, and can nullify the contract if necessary.
The two sides also struck a deal surrounding the canteen, worth just under $55,000 in town revenue should the contract be renewed until 2029.
